Today's Announcements - Friday, September 23, 2016's Announcements - Friday, September 23, 2016<p style="text-align:center;"><span lang="EN-CA" style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2016</strong></span></p><p><span lang="EN-CA" style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong> </strong></span></p><p>Yesterday the junior boys' soccer team travelled to Barrie and played their season openers.  After a shaky start against OSS they regrouped and came away with 8-0 win.  In the second game they faced Collingwood.  In a hard fought first half Banting was up 2-1.  Then with some half time adjustments they came away with sound 5-1 victory.  Congratulation on an amazing start to the season boys and good luck the rest of the way.</p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p> </p><p>The senior boys' soccer team traveled to the Barrie Sports Complex yesterday to Kick off their season.  The team faced off against Bradford in the first game and came out with a convincing 9-2 win.  The Marauders opened the scoring in the first minute of play and continued that momentum to dominate their opponents and earn their first victory of the season.   In their second game of the day, Banting squared off against a very organized and pesky Georgian Bay Bears side.  Despite enjoying the majority of possession and creating a number of scoring chances, the Marauders found themselves down 2 goals to 1 for the majority of the game.  However, demonstrating considerable composure and determination Banting scored 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of the game  to turn the game on its head and secure the win.  Great job Boys!!!</p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p style="text-align:justify;">PICTURE DAY IS COMING!!!!  AND DON'T FORGET TO BUY YOUR STUDENT ACTIVITY CARD!!!!</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Picture Day is Monday, September 26<sup>th,</sup><sub> </sub>2016.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The student activity fee this year is $15 and can be paid in the double gym when you are called down for your picture on Monday <strong>OR</strong> starting Monday September 26<sup>th</sup> on School Cash Online.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">All students must get their photo taken even if you are not purchasing a picture package.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">All staff is asked to have their photo taken.</p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p style="text-align:center;">LOST- one pair of brown and yellow prescription glasses. MOBYSS is a ground-breaking clinic that travels to areas across York Region and South Simcoe where youth have difficulty accessing health services. MOBYSS is staffed with a nurse practitioner, youth counsellor and peer support specialist. MOBYSS offers a 'walk-in' environment to provide youth with professional, confidential and friendly care. Come out and check out the bus! Every Friday from 11am – 2pm in front of the school!</p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p style="text-align:center;">Hey Banting! All are welcome. <br></p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p style="text-align:center;">Yesterday Banting's cross country runners competed at Blueberry Plains in Wassaga Beach. In midget boys Sam Butterworth finished in 21st place, Josh Davidson ran a strong race finishing in 6th place in junior boys, Natalie Whitten placed 9th in a large competitive senior girl race and Brodie Gabrek ran a great race placing 21st in senior boys. Congratulations to all runners for putting forth a strong effort in the first race of the season.</p><p style="text-align:center;">●</p><p style="text-align:center;">Don't forget that boys pick-up basketball will be running for two more Saturdays from 10 AM to noon.  If you are coming for the first time, please remember to bring in your forms tomorrow. Nomination forms can be picked up from the main office at the school, or downloaded here. </p>
Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test moves online for 2016-17 Secondary School Literacy Test moves online for 2016-17<p>​The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will be completed online in 2016-17. The test will be administered twice because of the move to the online format. Students will write the test at school on school computers. <br><br>Simcoe County District School Board students who started Grade 9 in September 2015 may be eligible to write the test next school year. <br><br>The first test date is Oct. 20, 2016. Students who are successful on the Oct. 20 test will have met the graduation requirement. Students who are not successful in October can write the test again on March 30, 2017. The October test will not count as a failed attempt.<br><br>In October 2016, the test will be the online format only. In March 2017, the test will be available both online and in paper format. <br><br>A sample test is available for students to preview and practice. Further details about the October test day will be shared in the fall.<br><br>The OSSLT is a graduation requirement managed by Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). Parents, tell us what you think: survey about climate, safety at school, tell us what you think: survey about climate, safety at school<p>​Parents and guardians can provide feedback on the climate at our school through a survey that will be open from Feb. 22 to March 11.  <br><br>Survey topics include: the overall tone of the school, feeling of safety, student well-being, and equity and inclusion.<br> </p><p style="text-align:center;"><strong><a href="" target="_blank">Complete the survey now</a></strong><br>Password: SecondaryParent2015  <br></p><p style="text-align:left;">A similar survey is being conducted with staff and students. Each school will receive a report of the school results. The Simcoe County District School Board’s (SCDSB) senior administrative team and Board of Trustees also review the board-wide results.  <br><br>The data will show our progress over time, and will highlight areas of strength and areas in need of improvement.  <br><br>The parent and staff versions of the secondary school <em>School</em><em> Climate Survey</em> are new this year and will be added to the elementary school survey next year. Student feedback has been collected since 2007.  <br><br>Questions can be sent to <a href="" target="_blank"></a>.</p>
CUPE reaches tentative agreement; suspends work-to-rule action reaches tentative agreement; suspends work-to-rule action <p>The collective bargaining agreement between the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) expired on August 31, 2014. In the SCDSB, CUPE represents our custodial and maintenance staff. Since September 10, 2015, CUPE members have been engaged in provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign.   </p><p><strong>On November 2, CUPE reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA).  </strong>The tentative deal must be endorsed by CUPE's local leaders before it is presented to all CUPE members for ratification. CUPE has agreed to suspend central job action while ratification takes place.  Terms of the tentative agreement have not yet been made public. </p><p> To learn more about the labour situation, visit the <a href="" target="_blank">Labour Situation page</a> on the SCDSB's website.</p>
